Polystyrene Market Update in North America, November 19, 2007

Write: Valdemar [2011-05-20]
Volume: Increasing
Price: Steady/lower
The spot Polystyrene market came off about $.01/lb this week, as offers began to grow when prices approached $.80/lb. Although producers are seeking to increase November contracts an additional $.04/lb, the market is still absorbing the $.02-.03/lb increase implemented in October. Current Benzene prices, mostly stable in the $3.40-3.45/gal range, do not necessarily provide a compelling cost-push argument
Several railcars of good offgrade HIPS have been made available in the mid-high $.70s/lb and good GPPS $.02-.03/lb lower. There are lower quality railcars offered to the market at a steeper discount. With restricted supply, specialty Styrenics such as SBS and EPS have become considerably more scarce and are commanding increased premiums in the market.
