NEW YORK, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Crude prices surged toward 100 dollars a barrel Tuesday on the weak dollar and concern of tight supply in winter.

Crude prices surged more than 4 percent above 98 dollars a barrel Tuesday as the U.S. dollar hit a new low against the euro.

The euro reached a record high of 1.4806 dollars Tuesday, as investor confidence in the U.S. economy was hit by the banking sector.

Light, sweet crude for January delivery was up 3.39 dollars to settle at 98.03 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Heating oil jumped 8.59 cents to settle at 2.6901 dollars a gallon after trading at an all-time high of 2.6909 dollars.
