Spot Polystyrene prices has eased a tad from their recent bump higher, but the market has maintained it overall strength, with prices near record high levels. The Polystyrene market has in general been well balanced and will likely continue to tighten more as producers continue to consolidate production.
There has been little pleasure in Polystyrene production as volatile and expensive Benzene prices have kept producers guessing and margins tight. Sustained feedstock cost increases have successfully been transferred downstream in the form of higher contract prices, but dwindling demand in this mature market has made it difficult for margin expansion to occur.
Spot resin offers have not been forthcoming, however with a little patience, spot supplies can be procured although they at times can be pricey. At this juncture, it is best to maintain comfortable resin inventories with eyes and ears open to well priced opportunities as they arise.
