Seoul (Korea.net) -- Kumho Petrochemical Co., a Korea-based company engaged in the manufacture of synthetic rubber and plastics, said recently that it plans to spend 285.3 billion won ($307.8 million) for the expansion of its plants in southern Korea by 2010. The plants include a butadiene rubber (BR) plant and a rubber antioxidant plant in Yeosu, 455 kilometers south of Seoul and a styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) plant in Ulsan, an industrial city about 414 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the company said. "The expansion aims at dominating the growing Asian markets including China in advance and reinforcing the company's presence in the global market," said a company official. Under the expansion plan, Korea Kumho Petrochemical's BR annual production will be increased to 342,000 tons from 222,000 tons in October 2009 and its SBR annual production will be raised to 531,100 tons from 421,000 tons in June 2010. The company's annual production of the rubber antioxidant also will be raised to 70,000 tons from 31,000 tons in August 2008.
