India's NR exports decline in April-May

Kottayam, India -- Export of natural rubber in India during April and May 2007 was 6,117 tonne compared to 12,711 tonne during the same period the previous year. Export during May 2007 was 3,989 tonne against 6,722 tonne in May 2006, a rubber board spokesman said on Tuesday. The import of natural rubber in May 2007 was 7,795 tonne compared to 6,511 tonne in May 2006. The cumulative import in the first two months was 16,708 tonne against 9,950 tonne in the corresponding period the previous year. The cumulative production in the first two months of the current year was 1,00,150 tonne compared to 1,11,055 tonne in the corresponding period the previous year, registering a negative growth of 9.8% due to unfavourable weather conditions and non-availability of tappers, he added. The production during May 2007 declined to 46,485 tonne against 56,500 tonne in May 2006. Production of synthetic rubber during April and May 2007 decreased to 16,475 tonne against 17,671 tonne in the same period the previous year. Production in May 2007 increased to 8,861 tonne from 7,614 tonne in April.
