Mexico City-based Mexichem said it had brought on stream a new
chlorine-caustic soda plant claiming that it is the most modern unit in Latin America. The $75 million plant is located at Santa Clara near Mexico City where it replaces a facility that had a capacity of 39,000 mt/year, plus 130,000 mt of sodium hypochlorite and 25,500 mt of hydrochloric acid.
The new plant's capacity is 10% more, Mexichem said Monday in an announcement to the Mexico Stock Exchange. It uses technology provided by Italy-based Uhdenora that saves energy and has won Mexichem $12 million in government fiscal incentives for industrial processes that protect the environment.
