Russia boosts rubber and plastics production

21 August, 2007 Russia s rubber and plastic products sector has increased its output by 21.5% in the past year, according to government figures.
Polypropylene shot up 67% in the period from January to July 2006 to the same period this year, according to a news report by the Russian news agency Interfax.
During the same period, polyethylene rose by 17.4% and polystyrene was up by 11.1%.
Overall, Russian chemicals firms increased their output by 8.4%, noted the Industry and Energy Ministry report.
PVC resin production rose by 5.8 %, and synthetic rubber production rose by grew 3% to 721,000 tonnes. Caustic soda output rose by 5.7% to 760,000 tonnes.
But chemical fibre and thread production inched ahead by only 0.6%, reaching 88,800 tonnes.
Russia increased mineral fertilizer production by 11.3% to 10.3m tonnes.
Truck tyre output was up 6.5 per cent to 6.5m units while car tyre production rose 5.4% to 16.5 m units.
