Polyplex to expand capacities at India, Thailand plants

New Delhi --2Aug2007 India's Polyplex Corp. is to set up new production lines for 38,000
mt/year biaxially oriented polypropylene film, 7,600 mt/year cast
polypropylene film and 4,000 mt/year metallizer for CPP at its existing plant
at Rayong in Thailand, and a 38,000 mt/year BOPP unit at Khatima in north
India by March 2009, the company said in a statement Thursday.
"The expansion projects at Rayong and Khatima involve an estimated
investment of $82 million," a company official said. "We expect to commission
the new capacities in the fourth quarter of 2008-09," he added.
The company's board of directors approved the expansion plans July 31.
This is apart from the expansion plan for the Khatima plant approved July 13.
Polyplex is currently involved in setting up a 24,000 mt/year PET line
and 5,700 mt/year metallizer at Tekirdag in Turkey, and a 5,700 mt/year
metallizer at Rayong, which are expected to be commissioned by end 2008.
After commissioning the approved and ongoing projects, Polyplex said that
its total installed PET film capacity would go up to 138,000 mt/year,
metallizer capacity to 32,000 mt/year and chips plant capacity to 164,000
mt/year. The company currently operates three PET plants in India, Thailand
and Turkey with total capacity of 83,000 mt/year.
The Noida-based Polyplex Group reported a net profit of Rs 285 million
($7.05 million) for the quarter ended June 30, compared to Rs 36 million for
the same period last year.
Polyplex manufactures and exports biaxially oriented polyester film
for packaging, electrical and other industrial applications.
