Aker Kvaerner awarded PTA contract in Portugal

Aker Kvaerner has been awarded a contract to provide the engineering, procurement services and construction management for Artenius' new mega Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant, to be built in Sines, Portugal. The contract value is approximately GBP 20 million. Aker Kvaerner Powergas India in Mumbai is providing the detailed engineering, whilst Technoedif in Portugal will be working as sub-contractor to Aker Kvaerner providing engineering support and construction management assistance.
The new plant will produce 700,000 tpa of PTA. The project commences immediately, with construction scheduled to be complete in Q4-2009. The plant is estimated to go onstream in early Q1-2010.
This is the fourth PTA project that Aker Kvaerner has been awarded in the last year. Aker Kvaerner has worked on more than 21 PTA facilities spanning more than 20 years, representing around 20% of the world's PTA production capacity. Earlier this year, Aker Kvaerner was selected to provide the basic and detailed engineering design and offshore procurement services for Petroqu micaSuape's PTA plant, to be built at the Port of Suape, Pernambuco, in North East Brazil. Aker Kvaerner is also providing the basic engineering design and technical advisory services for the JiaLong Petrochemical Fiber Company Limited new PTA plant being built at its petrochemical complex in ShiShi, Fujian Province, People's Republic of China, and for the China Prosperity PTA plant being built in JiangSu Province.
