Volume: Increasing
Price: Weakening
Spot Polystyrene prices have continued to ease, shedding another half-cent this week. Spot prices have now fallen about $.03/lb, commensurate with the relief in spot Styrene monomer costs. Polystyrene supplies are not necessarily ballooning, but it has indeed become easier to source fresh railcars. Railcars of good quality HIPS are still mostly running in the mid $70s/lb, with clean GPPS a couple of cents lower. Lower quality resin, particularly cars with offcolor pellets, have been further discounted and those prices could be seen in the high $60s/lb.
Distributors and traders have in general lightened their Polstyrene inventories, so spot truckloads are not necessarily easy to procure and those prices could still be firm, based on previous costs.
