Interest in US PVC exports waning on logistics, price limit

Demand for US PVC in international markets is beginning to fade, sources said Wednesday. The reason for the diminished interest is twofold, said one trader.
Lengthy delays in shipping and a lack of available shipping space were cited as one of the reasons.
"There are a number of logistical problems," said one trader. "People just don't want to wait for material," he added. As a result, freight rates have been rising. "Just to get cargoes moving, you have to pay a premium," said one market participant.
The second reason cited for fading interest was that prices seem to have hit a ceiling. Depending on the region, the ceiling ranged from $1,100-$1,150/mt CFR. "Prices aren't falling but they aren't rising either," said trader.
Meanwhile, export values were last talked at $1,045-$1,055/mt FAS Houston.
