As of October 1, 2007, BASF will be raising its prices in Europe for compounded polyamide (Ultramid /Miramid /Capron ) and PBT (Ultradur ) by 150 euros per metric ton. The prices for specialties from the engineering plastics product line will be going up by 300 euros per metric ton. Through increased productivity and efficiency as well as through energy-saving measures, product innovations and newly developed applications, BASF has endeavored in recent years to absorb the continuous shrinking of the margins in the realm of engineering plastics and to keep prices stable to the greatest extent possible. These efforts, however, have not been sufficient to compensate for the unsatisfactory earnings situation. Continuing to safeguard this field of operations means that BASF will have to invest in applications technology, in research and development as well as in new facilities. This is only possible with adequate margins.
