Crude ends at record 83.69 dollars

NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Crude oil futures finished at a new record high Friday, after briefly trading above the 84-dollar-a-barrel level for the first time ever.

Crude for November delivery ended at 83.69 U.S. dollars on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Earlier the contract rose as high as 84.05 dollars, surpassing the all-time front-month intraday high of 83.90 dollars set by the now-expired October contract on Sept. 20. On that day, the contract set a front-month closing high of 83.32 dollars.
