Polystyrene Market Update in North America, October 29, 2007

Volume: Average
Price: Steady
Spot Polystyrene market activity was slow this past week. Spot prices were mostly steady to perhaps a little higher. There were several offers for railcars of good GPPS in the mid $.70s/lb and HIPS nearing $.80/lb. Producers have secured at least a $.02/lb price increase across October contracts and there is another $.04/lb price increase nominated for November contracts.
Buyers, who complain of poor downstream demand were only searching for minimal quantities of resin this past week. With the spot market becoming less liquid due to producer consolidation and disinterested resellers, warehoused stocks are found to be light. Those transactions that did consummate were at higher levels.
