Polish-German packaging joint venture Schaumaplast-Organika has launched an expanded polystyrene (EPS) moulded transit packaging plant in Lodz, Poland.
The new facility has been built jointly by German expanded polypropylene foam (EPP) and EPS packaging maker Schaumaplast of Reilingen and Lodz-based Polish chemicals group Zaklady Chemiczne Organika.
The facility will serve the domestic appliance and electronic goods sectors. Customers include appliance manufacturers Indesit and Bosch-Siemens and the Dell Corporation.
Schaumaplast-Organika, formed in 1999, started out producing EPS thermo insulation sheet for the construction industry, before adding moulded Styrofoam packaging for furniture and moving on to the domestic appliances area.
The joint venture, which employs around 40 at the new unit, plans to invest a total of 12 million Polish zloty (Euro3.3m) in Lodz by 2012.
