MADRID - Repsol YPF (REP.MC: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) core shareholders La Caixa and Sacyr Vallehermoso (SVO.MC: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) are offering Mexican telecoms magnate Carlos Slim a 10 percent stake in the oil company, daily El Pais reported citing unnamed sources.
According to the newspaper, Slim is studying the plan which would entail acquiring 5 percent of Repsol from Sacyr, which currently holds 20 percent of the oil company.
The remaining 5 pct could be acquired from Repsinves, La Caixa and peer savings bank Caixa Catalunya's investment vehicle in Repsol, which holds 6.1 percent of the oil company, El Pais said.
Repsol declined to comment on the report, while no one at La Caixa was available to comment.
The newspaper cited sources from La Caixa and Caixa Catalunya as denying the report.
Shares in Repsol rose 4.9 percent on Thursday after Expansion said oil majors Total (TOTF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Shell (RDSa.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) could buy a stake in the company.
