Toronto index closes higher as oil rallies

TORONTO - Toronto's main stock index closed at its highest level in over a week on Monday in a broad-based rally supported by a rebound in oil prices and talk that global stimulus measures would avert a deeper slide in the economy.
The Toronto Stock Exchange S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed 448.49 points higher, or 5.53 percent, at 8,565.52, with all of its 10 main sectors ending higher.
