Fertiliser firms await revised Reliance gas draft

MUMBAI, March 10 - Indian fertiliser firms have objected to conditions such as payment in dollars for gas supplies from Reliance Industries's east coast fields, but hope to resolve the issues, a lobby group said on Tuesday.

"We are keen to sign the deal. It is good for our industry," Satish Chander, director general of the Fertiliser Association of India, said.

"There are issues which can be jointly addressed and I am sure we will shortly sign the deal to mutual satisfaction of each other."

He was responding to a report in the Times of India newspaper that said fertiliser companies had rejected a draft agreement sent by Reliance, a move that could delay Reliance's gas sales from its field off India's east coast set to begin in April.

Chander said Reliance was expected to provide a revised draft to address concerns, including supply assurances and penalties.

"We should be reaching common ground. We are waiting for the revised draft," he said.

Reliance could not be reached for comment, but the newspaper quoted unnamed Reliance sources as saying the company was working towards resolving the issue.
