April 28 - Oilfield services company Superior Energy Services Inc (SPN.N) reported first-quarter earnings that topped estimates, helped by revenue growth in its well intervention segment.

For the latest first quarter, Superior posted a net income of $56.8 million, or 72 cents a share, compared with $99.5 million, or $1.21 a share in the year-ago quarter.

Analysts on average were expecting earnings of 69 cents a share on revenue of $422.7 million.

Superior's Well intervention segment revenue rose 23 percent, spurred by increased activity for marine engineering and project management services in the shallow water Gulf of Mexico.

Shares of the company closed at $17.81 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
