Comstock Resources posts wider-than-expected Q1 loss

May 4 - Energy company Comstock Resources Inc (CRK.N) reported wider-than-expected first quarter loss, hurt by decline in oil and natural gas prices.

For the quarter ended March 31, the company's net loss was $5.7 million, or 12 cents a share, compared with net income from continuing operations, of $29.4 million, or 64 cents a share, a year earlier

Analysts were expecting Comstock to post a loss of 11 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $69.8 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

The company's gas prices per thousand cubic feet of gas was 42 percent lower than last year. Realized oil prices in the quarter averaged $35.03 per barrel, 57 percent lower year-over-year.

Shares of the company closed at $39.38 Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
