Transocean wins Brazil ultra-deepwater contract

SAN FRANCISCO, July 20 - Transocean Ltd (RIG.N) said on Monday it won a contract from Brazil's Petrobras (PETR4.SA) for its ultra-deepwater Cajun Express rig worth $558.5 million over three years starting in early 2010.

The three-year contract works out to a day rate of about $510,000, compared with the semisubmersible rig's current rate of $490,000 per day in a contract in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with Chevron Corp (CVX.N), which runs until January.

Petrobras, a state-run oil company investing heavily in oil finds off Brazil's coast, has one year after the rig starts work to extend it to a five-year contract worth $894.3 million, Transocean said in a statement. The anticipated five-year revenue implies a $490,000 day rate.

Transocean shares, which had risen 1.5 percent in regular trading on Monday, were unchanged after-hours.
