TORONTO, Jan 21 - The fire at a oil storage tank in Cushing, Oklahoma, was extinguished by 7:00 a.m. local time, a local fireman said.

Cushing is the delivery point for the benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Traders said the fire, which started Wednesday night, was at a 55,000-barrel oil storage tank owned by SemCrude, a unit of SemGroup Corp.

Officials at SemCrude were not immediately available for comment.

A lightning strike at an oil storage facility on the north side of Cushing kept firefighters busy overnight, and forced the move of classes for students at Deep Rock Elementary School, according to KUSH Radio.
