Air China's financial performance this year will be better than last year, its chairman Kong Dong said yesterday.

The airline remains proactive regarding the possible acquisition of smaller rival Shenzhen Airlines, Chairman Kong Dong told reporters in Beijing on the sidelines of China's annual parliamentary session, adding that auditing and financial evaluation of the carrier will be completed this year.

The state parent of Air China had recently received 1.5 billion yuan (US$220 million) cash aid from the government. Kong said the carrier will soon announce detailed share placement plans to its parent.
