The Russian Navigation Technologies company on Thursday presented a new high-tech cane installed with GLONASS navigation system to Russia's Santa Claus, Grandfather Frost.

The new wand will thus keep Grandfather Frost in track during his traditional New Year's gift-dispatching journey.

Ded Moroz, or Grandfather Frost, brings gifts to children at New Year's celebrations instead of the Russian Orthodox Christmas, which falls on Jan. 7.

The traditional appearance of Ded Moroz resembles that of Santa Claus, who sports a long white beard.

"Technical innovations have become an essential part of modern life. Therefore, Grandfather Frost has mastered computer skills, receives e-mails from children, has blogs in social networks and uses a cellphone to communicate with other magicians," said Ivan Nechayev, the executive director of the company.

Now every one can track the changing coordinates and progress in Grandfather Frost's journey via the Internet.

The GLONASS device was installed at the top of the crystal- shaped cane, a stick of 180 cm long and weighs some 3 kg.

The company has promised the module would not damage the cane's original magic, which would be used by Grandfather Frost to light the first fir tree in the country located in his hometown of Veliky Ustyug.

Last year, the sledge and other vehicles at Grandfather Frost's residence have already been equipped with GLONASS navigation systems.
