Hong Kong's largest mobile network operator CSL Limited announced on Thursday the launch of an upgraded network, implementing the advanced 4G technology, which could bring considerable increases in capacity and speed of the network for mobile phone users.

The new LTE/DC-HSPA+ network, provided by CSL in partnership with ZTE Corp., China's leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, offered high-speed data with full mobility and high reliability, helping customers to take entertainment and interaction to new levels, CSL said.

For corporate and professional services, the new network will help enhance business efficiency by offering mobile office, mobile HD video conferencing, etc., the company said.

"This revolutionary technology represents a quantum leap into a whole new era of mobile broadband for business and entertainment, putting Hong Kong at the forefront of global telecommunications innovation," said Joseph O'Konek, CEO of CSL, at the press conference held on Thursday.

"Hong Kong's unique density and geography have made it one of the world's most challenging environments in which to deploy a large-scale wireless network," said Weigui Hou, chairman of ZTE.

We were proud of the work we have done to provide CSL a solution that "delivers exceptional network performance to all its customers", Hou added.

After the launch of the new network with corporate services, CSL planned to offer its consumer services commercially in the first quarter of 2011, when devices start entering in the market.

Established in 1983 as Hong Kong's first mobile network operator, CSL is also the first mobile company in the city to employ a market segmentation strategy by providing customer- focused services through segmented brands including 1010, one2free and New World Mobility.
