China Mobile intends to expand beyond telephones to satisfy consumers' everyday needs, from purchasing vehicles to furniture, the corporation's CEO announced, as reported by PC World.

Li Yue, China Mobile CEO said at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong on Wednesday that, "we have to change our traditional strategy. We have to make every attempt at integrating mobile services with our customers' lives."

Currently, China Mobile has 569 million users, making it the world's largest mobile operator in terms of customer numbers. But the company's CEO made the comment just as many telecom operators across the globe face the daunting challenge of increasing costs from dealing with more volumes of traffic.

"I still believe mobile carriers have a huge opportunity. The opportunity is in innovation."
Smart phones will be expected to pave the path for that innovation, as users become more dependent upon the devices for their daily needs, he noted. China Mobile contends that it can tap that potential by assisting users with easily reaching services from all types of different industries via their smartphones. China Mobile was the first of the nation's three mobile operators to launch its own app store in August 2009. Presently, the store's total downloads surpass 25 million.

Yet, China Mobile has also been branching out into other forms of media downloads. More than 6 million people are users of the company's mobile video services, while paid users for China Mobile's music downloads have exceeded 3.2 million.
