China:Websites plug into wind energy to go Green

Going green is the latest thing in almost every business now. This time, it is online industry that is making headway into the environmentally friendly initiatives.
Dotster.com, an ICANN accredited domain registrar and one of the world s largest Web Hosting companies, just made more than 4.4 million websites environmentally friendly.
Partnering with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Dotster has offset more than 150% of its domain name and web hosting servers environmental impact.
Dotster powers over 4.4 million websites, said Clint Page, CEO, Dotster.com. As one of the world s largest domain name registrars and Web hosting companies, we wanted to take the first step in leading our industry in sustainable business practices.
Dotster joins a host of other companies like IBM and Dell that have analyzed and worked to reverse their environmental footprint.
Dotster s 150% wind power offsets fund renewable energy projects like the Tatanka Wind Farm, one of the largest in the western United States. As part of its ongoing infrastructure replenishment, Dotster donates its used computers and servers to local schools.
Any remaining equipment is recycled through certified electronics recycling companies.
In addition to powering its customers websites with renewable energy, Dotster also follows sustainable practices in their offices by offsetting 100% of carbon dioxide emissions for its employees yearly commutes, partnering with its local power company to offset office power use, and eliminating paper products from the office by replacing them with re-usable containers.
