United States-based express transportation operator FedEx Express Wednesday announced the opening of a new line from South China's Guangzhou to India's New Delhi and Mumbai to further reinforce the connections between the two emerging countries.

The new line will enable direct connections from the Asia Pacific hub of FedEx Express in Guangzhou and the two major cities in India offering additional outbound capacity, said a release by FedEx Express.

The new line will have five flights each week with daily capacity of 32 tons and operation started from Jan. 4, said Taarek Hinedi, managing director with FedEx Express' Indian operations.

The new line will be executed by Airbus 310 airliners and reduce transit time between India and other relevant Asian countries by one to two business days, said FedEx Express.

The opening of the new line will not involve purchase of new aircraft, said Baerbel Bussennius, manager on external communications from FedEx Express' Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa operations.

Officials from FedEx Express declined to deliberate the specific numbers of relevant investment and employees.

FedEx Express also operates a shared line from New Delhi to Shanghai since 2005 with daily capacity of 70 tons and five flights every week.

"This new dedicated flight providing additional air connectivity to and from India underlines FedEx confidence in the Indian Market and reinforces our commitment to enhancing trade opportunities between India and China", said Kenneth Koval, vice president of FedEx Express' Indian operations.

This move indicates the growing importance of trade ties between India and China as well as Southeast Asia, which account for 27 percent and 32 percent of Indian export and import, respectively.

Now, FedEx Express operates 31 international flights each week connecting India's New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

As a leading express transportation company in the world, FedEx Express entered Indian market independently in 1997 and currently has about 300 vehicles and 2,800 employees with main hub situated in New Delhi.
