Chinese equities posted large gains on the last trading day of 2010.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was up 1.76 percent, or 48.5 points, to close at 2,808.08 points on Friday.
The Shenzhen Component Index jumped 2.63 percent, or 319.66 points, to close at 12,458.55 points.
Hong Kong stocks closed up 36.11 points, or 0.16 percent, at 23,035.45 on Friday.
Japan
The Japanese stock market closed for the New Year holiday.
Australia
The Australian stock market has finished 2010 on a disappointing note, dropping almost 1 per cent amid broad-based declines.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 45.2 points, or 0.94 per cent, at 4745.2 points.
The broader All Ordinaries index had fallen 39.8 points, or 0.81 per cent, to 4846.9 points.
