On December 8 Morning, a meeting between the State Ministry of Railway and Fujian Provincial People s Government was held in Beijing, the meeting discussed on facilitating the new-round railway construction in the Economic Zone West of Taiwan Strait. Minister Liu Zhijun, Deputy Minister Lu Dongfu and Lu Chunfang, Governor Huang Xiaojing and Vice Governor Zhang Zhinan from Fujian, and Executive Mayor Huang Xiaoyan from Longyan, attended the meeting. Mr. Liu Zhijun and Mr. Huang Xiaojing cosigned the memorandum on behalf of MOR and Fujian Provincial People s Government respectively.
According to the memorandum, there are four projects related with Longyan, namely: 1. Ganzhou-Longyan Railway multi-line, the construction of which will start in 2009; 2. the multi-line electric Pucheng-Jianning-Longyan-Meizhou Railway with a designed speed of 200km/h, the bidding for design proposal will be released ASAP, and the construction of which will start in 2010; 3. Nanping-Sanming-Longyan Railway, the bidding for design proposal will be released ASAP, and the construction will start in 2010. Meanwhile, the preparatory work on Longyan-Guangzhou Railway shall be carried out. 4. The bidding for the design proposal of Changting-Quanzhou Railway shall be released ASAP, and the construction will start in 2011.
The MOR and Fujian Government have agreed upon facilitating the preparatory work, so as to provide sound backing for the drive of making the Economic Zone West of Taiwan Strait the leading region in scientific development and exchange and cooperation across the straits.
