Governor Xu Shousheng of Hunan Province met with Zhai Huqu, president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and his delegation in Changsha at the noon of Dec. 20, 2010.
Governor Xu expressed his gratitude to CAAS for its long-standing support to the social and economic development of Hunan. During the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, Hunan aims to promote secondary and tertiary industries in rural areas and coordinate development of urban and rural areas by strengthening innovation of agricultural science, thus to channel the employment transfer of farmers and increase farmers' income. Taking the cooperative network for innovation of agricultural science of 6 provinces in central China as a platform, Hunan will enhance exchange and cooperation with its neighboring provinces, explore new techniques and strive to make improvements through combined efforts. He hoped that CAAS would advance cooperation with Hunan, and support Hunan in improving agricultural science and technology.
President Zhai remarked that Hunan, as a major player in agriculture development, enjoys recognition in terms of agricultural science & technology across the country. CAAS will further strengthen cooperation with Hunan in this regard, and provide powerful scientific and technological support for agriculture and rural development as well as farmers' income growth in Hunan.
