Up to the present, there are 22 pencil enterprises in Qingyuan County, of which 15 enterprises being above designated size. The registered capital of its pencil industry amounts to 22.85 million yuan, and offers employment to more than 2,000 people. In March, 2010, China Light Industry Association awarded Qingyuan County as "China (Qingyuan) Pencil Production Base".
In Qingyuan, the annual gross industrial output value of its pencil industry has reached 160 million yuan, with a total pencil output of 1.7 billion, accounting for one tenth of total output in China. 98% of its pencil products are exported to Europe, America, Southeast Asia and other countries and regions. Qingyuan County has become an important pencil export base in China.
