Literary Critics Hold Discussions in Hangzhou

Write: Trisha [2011-05-20]

The Critics Forum organized by the Humanities College of Hangzhou Normal University and Contemporary Writers Review Magazine began on March 7th in Hangzhou. Ding Fan, Wu Jun, Chen Si and several other scholars had a West Lakeside Discussion over literary criticism.

Prof. Wang Yao, the dean of College of Liberal Arts in Suzhou University, pointed out that most literary theories applied by Chinese scholars in their studies on literature were borrowed from the West, which has undermined the power of their own language. Chinese literary critics need to solve Chinese problems in their own discourse.

Chinese literary writers and critics, while utilizing the advanced Western literary theories as a source of reference, should still have a national perspective, and construct their own system of literary criticism discourse based on their own experiences of Chinese contemporary literary creation. said Prof. Wang Kai from Hangzhou Normal University.
