THE University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore (UVAS) is organising a national conference Pakistan s Leather Sector Challenges & Opportunities at the varsity on Wednesday (today).
Objective of the conference is to highlight the leather industry related issues which are being faced by the leather entrepreneurs and market access to futuristic paradigm.
The leather industry is one of the prominent industries of Pakistan with second largest foreign exchange earning and manufacturing sector after textile. Pakistan stands at 15th position in the world in leather production, 4th in leather garments, 2nd in leather gloves, and 36th in leather footwear.
Leather and leather made-ups industry plays a significant role in the economy of Pakistan and its share in GDP is four percent.
