Tunisia: leather and footwear exports up 19.5%

Exports in the leather and footwear sector in the first 11 months of the year totalled 879 million dinars (about 454 million euros), with an increase of 19.5% compared to the same period in 2009. The figures were published by the National Centre for the Leather and Footwear Industries (ICC), which reported that the result was mainly due to finished footwear products, with exports increasing to 534.9 million dinars (about 276.2 million euros, 60,8% of the total). Italy was Tunisia's top client, taking in 47.6% of their exports, followed by France (26.7%) and Germany (12.6%). Imports totalled 569 million dinars (about 294 million euros) compared to 498.1 million dinars (about 257 million euros) in the same period last year.
