The Argentine Leather Industry Chemists and Technicians Association (AAQTIC) held its third national technical symposium at the end of November in Buenos Aires to offer the latest update on technology for the tanning industry.
The symposium was aimed at technicians in the tanning industry and included presentations of research work carried out mainly within Argentina. Presentations were give by representatives of chemical companies, research centres and tanneries.
Many of the presentations were specific to the market in Argentina and related to tanning processes, controls, raw materials, by-products and other issues related to the leather value chain, such as producing leather from, chilled hides and finished product design.
More than 150 people took part in the event, including a number of delegates from Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, and a speaker from Germany, Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer, vice-president of the leather business unit at specialty chemicals firm Lanxess.
