Last year Hebei provincial government launched the campaign to eliminate the backward production capacity and allocated 90 million yuan fund for settlement of laid-off workers, 163 enterprises have totally closed down due to backward facilities, the office of Industry and Information Technology in Hebei province said.
The campaign targets the ten sectors that are regarded as main pollutant emission sources and leather making is among the elimination list. According to the national elimination plan setting for leather sector, 5.838 million pieces of leather capacity in Hebei province were cut during 2010 and 90 million yuan fund have been distributed to the laid-off workers.
