RICHMOND, Va. (AP) The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says many of the state's major crops produced lower yields in 2010.
Officials say crops like corn, soybeans, peanuts, cotton and hay yields were significantly lower than 2009.
Corn for grain production is estimated to be 52 percent below the 2009 production. Meanwhile, soybean production in 2010 is estimated to be down 33 percent from the previous year.
Virginia's peanut production was estimated to be down about 27 percent from 2009, while cotton production was 15 percent lower and hay production was down 18 percent.
Production of 41.1 million pounds of flue-cured tobacco is up slightly from 2009, and burley production is estimated to be down 29 percent.
