The New South Wales Government says the cost of flood and heavy rain damage to the state's crops will exceed $850 million.
The harvest in many parts of the state has stopped because paddocks are still too wet, and this year's wheat crop has been downgraded to livestock feed quality in many areas.
Primary Industries Minister Steve Whan says farmers now have a better idea of the extent of the damage.
"We did about four or five weeks ago estimate half a billion dollars," Mr Whan said.
"The estimate's gone up because we've had better estimates from farmers, better reports in of what they've been able to harvest, and of course continuation of some of the conditions that have caused difficulties.
"There will be some people for whom this will be a disaster which could put in jeopardy their farming future. But there will be many others who had some damage but will still get some income and that will be very positive for them."
