Pfeiffer Vacuum has won the prestigious R&D 100 Award for the development of its HiPace turbopumps. The award pays tribute to the HiPace 80, HiPace 300 and HiPace 700 as one of the 100 most significant new technological developments of the year.
These turbopumps are also characterized by their high level of cost-effectiveness and flexibility in all installation orientations. Their high pumping speeds and gas throughputs, coupled with their very good compression for light gases, were made possible by theirimproved rotor design.
Development chief Armin Conrad had this to say in accepting the award in Chicago on October 16, 2008: 50 years ago, Pfeiffer Vacuum invented the turbopump, and we are pleased to have now won this prestigious award for evolving the turbopump. Rigorous technological improvements have broadened the range of applications, increased service life
and simplified maintenance. In fact, a bearing change on a customer system can be accomplished in a matter of minutes, without even having to remove the pump. That s a real advantage for the customer, as competitor pumps in contrast have to be removed and sent back to the factory.
This highly renowned international award has been presented annually since 1963 by R&D Magazine for the 100 most significant new technological products worldwide. With paid circulation of 90,000 copies, R&D Magazine is one of the leading U.S. periodicals in the field of research and development. The award-winners are selected by an independent jury, whose decisions are based first and foremost upon the contributions these products have made toward the further evolution of our industrial society.
