How can an inverter-fed induction motor for electric vehicles be controlled without sensors? Dariusz Stando addressed this question in his Master's thesis at the Technical University (TU) of Warsaw. And he answered it so well that he won first place in this year's competition for technical theses organized by HUETTINGER Electronic Sp. z o.o.

For the second time now, HUETTINGER Electronic Sp. z o.o. in Poland has sponsored this competition in cooperation with the TU Warsaw. Since April, students majoring in the technical fields have been able to submit their Master's and PhD theses on topics ranging from power electronics, energy conversion from renewable resources and solar cell production.

From the multitude of applicants, a top-class jury made up of members from the TU Warsaw selected three winners. The award ceremony was held on October 1 after the official start of the first semester at the Technical University of Warsaw, which is considered one of the best universities in Poland. In addition to students, professors from other universities and invited guests from government and business, Poland's deputy prime minister Waldemar Pawlak was also one of the more than 700 guests.

In his spech during the award ceremony, Rafal Bugyi, managing director of HUETTINGER Electronic Sp. Z o.o. in Poland, emphasized the importance of fostering the next generation of scientists and engineers. "As a high-tech company, innovation is our livelihood. We therefore depend on gifted and highly educated and skilled employees. It is an honour for us to be able to cooperate with the TU Warsaw in this way in order to acknowledge the best students."

After the award ceremony, HUETTINGER Electronic Sp. z o.o. invited the students who took part in the competition for a company tour on October 13. During the tour, the students had the opportunity to become more familiar with H TTINGER's technology and the application areas of its products as well as the company's production principles.

At the company's own plasma chamber, the largest of its kind in Poland, the engineering students were able to experience live how a generator produces plasma for coating processes. "This event has broadly expanded my knowledge of plasma processes," said one of the students after the tour. "The technological environment that H TTINGER is associated with its power supplies is very diverse.

To better understand the complex connections, it is really helpful to see how everything works in practice."

Next year, HUETTINGER Electronic Sp. z o.o. will again sponsor a competition and it will no doubt again discover promising students who are best equipped for a professional career in research and development.
