Sinovel Wind Group Co<601558>, the largest wind power generator manufacturer in China, said it will complete the production of the country's first independently-developed 6-megawatt wind turbine in June this year, the China Daily reported.
The turbine would put Sinovel on a par with Germany's Enercon and Denmark's Vestas in producing the world's most powerful wind generator. Vestas said earlier this month that it would unveil its first 6-MW wind turbine by the end of March.
Tao Gang, vice-general manager of Sinovel said "Sinovel has the global intellectual property rights for its 6-MW wind turbine. The development of the product has given a boost to the upstream production of parts and components in China".
Tao added that Sinovel has started the development of a 10-MW wind turbine.
In August 2010, 34 Sinovel-developed 3-MW offshore wind turbines at the Shanghai Donghai Bridge Offshore Wind Farm Project were connected to the grid.
