China Shenhua's coal output up 11% in Jan

China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd.,the listed unit of China's largest coal producer, Shenhua Group, said yesterday that its commercial coal output grew 11% year on year to 21.5 million metric tons in January this year.

The company said in a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange that its coal sales rose 16% year on year to 27.9 million metric tons, including 800,000 metric tons of exported coal, 33.3% less than in the same period of last year.

In January, the company's electricity output hit 13.75 terawatt hours, up 5.5% year on year.

China Shenhua Energy sold 12.84 TWhs of electricity last month, 5.4% more than in the January 2010.

China Shenhua Energy produced 224.8 million metric tons of coal in 2010, 7% more than in 2009, and sold 292.6 million metric tons of coal last year, up 15% year on year.

The company said earlier that it expected its net profit in 2010 to grow 23% year on year.
