Power service still abnormal in parts of south China

A total of 47 Power transmission lines and three substations in areas covered by China Southern Power Grid Corp were still out of service on Jan. 10 due to icy weather, the National Development and Reform Commission said on Jan 12.

At least 104 towns experienced electricity outages in Guizhou and Yunnan provinces and three of them were still powerless by 11 am on Jan 11, the commission said in a report on its website (www.ndrc.gov.cn).

Icy rain and freezing weather have disrupted traffic and damaged power facilities in the past two weeks in southern and southwestern provinces and regions of Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi, Sichuan and Chongqing.

Power shortages have hit some other Chinese regions due to tight supply capacity and rising demand amid cold weather.
