Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has stressed the importance of industrial structure upgrading through reforms and innovation in line with scientific development and requirements from accelerating economic growth mode transformation.

Li made the remarks while visiting Xi'an, capital of northwestern China's Shaanxi Province from Thursday to Friday.

Also, Li said the people's living standards should be improved in economic growth and growth quality and benefits should be upgraded in restructuring, he said.

Li visited the Xi'an-based China IWNCOMM Co., Ltd, which ranks among the leading global companies in network security technology.

Li said industrialization of scientific results should be promoted in the high-tech sector and emerging strategic sectors should be actively developed to nurture new economic growth points.

Li also visited the Xi'an XD High Voltage Apparatus Co., Ltd., a key production base of high voltage switches in China.

He said enterprises should enter the global markets and compete with leading industrial players to seek breakthroughs.

Reforms and innovation were lifelines for enterprises and the ultimate driving power for restructuring, and thus more efforts should be made on scientific research and development, Li said.

Li also visited a shanty-home community with about 1,500 households. Local government has been planning to improve the living conditions of the community.

While there, Li walked into Guan Kangming's home. Guan and his wife moved from eastern China to the western region about 50 years ago. Li held Guan's hands and said, "You've contributed a lot to the building up of the western region and we have responsibilities to improve your living conditions."

Further, in a low-rent residential community, Li visited the home of Tang Ying'ai, a low-income family.

Li said low-renting housing played a key role in tackling housing problems for low-income families and in maintaining their living stability, and more efforts should be made to increase the construction of low-rent housing.
