The western China is the crucial energy output area across China. According to statistics, in the past ten years, the power carrying capacity of West-East electricity transmission project reached 63.18 million kw. The commercial amount of transmitted natural gas of the West-East natural gas transmission project amounted to 37.7 billion cm3 and the coal production hit 6.9 billion tons, accounting for 36% of the entire national production over the same period of last year. Some of mineral resources met the similar situation including the above energy.
With the upcoming implementation of the 12th Five-Year Plan, all signs demonstrate that this traditional pattern will continue and maybe the pattern will be enlarged. On November 10, State Grid claimed in its news release that in 2010, the outward transmission capacity of northwestern power grids will reach 6.11 million kw, more than octuple than that in 2005 and the outward electric power capacity will achieve a leap-forward growth.
In 2020, the electric power outward transmission capacity of Western China will hit above 0.1 billion kw. By this year-end, with the network integration of Xinjiang grids and Western main grids, the 750-kv power grid which covers five provinces (autonomous regions) in Northwestern China will be initially constructed. This also drives the energy development craze in the northwestern region of China.
Including traditional energy, today in the trend whose keynote is structural adjustment and shifting, all western regions in China increase the new energy share in their development planning. At present, the Chinese central government has approved the construction of national new-energy pilot city at Turpan in Xinjiang; Sichuan province will build new-energy industrial cluster; Gansu province is actively constructing two energy bases in Eastern Gansu and the West of the Yellow River; and Shanxi province also quicken its steps of carbonificated industry on the basis of consolidating the traditional coal industry. To sum up, it can be concluded that with the gradual decay of eastern traditional energy base of China, the western region of China, as the national energy hub, its status will be strengthened.
