South Railway Station Scheduled for Opening on Jan. 30

The Guangzhou South Railway Station is slated to open on January 30; it will replace the Guangzhou North Railway Station as the Guangzhou terminus for the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway.
Guangzhou Mayor Zhang Guangning paid a fact-finding visit to the Guangzhou South Railway Station, stating that the area around the new station will be built into southern Guangzhou's center for commerce, trade and tourism and become the most important functional extension of the city's central district.
According to Guo Zhuxue, General Manager of Guangzhou Railway Group, the entire station will become operational before July 1, 2010; from January 30, the new station will replace the Guangzhou North Railway Station as the Guangzhou terminus for the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway Station; 32 trains will depart from Guangzhou daily, including 29 bound for Wuhan and three bound for Changsha.
Mayor Zhang requires the builders to complete the first-phase roadways and the landscaping of the station's eastern square by January 20, and the second phase before the Asian Games open.
