Panyu Residents Reject

After Panyu's waste incinerator scandal last month, it had become clear that another solution was needed to treat the district's waste. The citizens advocated the implementation of a waste sorting policy which was accepted on principle by the authorities.
Seeing an opportunity to make money, a company has recently been trying to promote a grinder which transforms solid food waste in small particles which can then be evacuated down the sink. The machine costs 880 Yuan and the company claims that by washing away food waste, 85% of a household's daily waste can be disposed of in this manner.
However, experts rectified this claim, saying the food waste accounts for 50% of a household's daily waste production and that by disposing of it down the drain, the waste will produce a lot of germs, a terrible smell, and poisonous water which shall become extremely difficult to clean afterwards. Residents are also critical of this machine, claiming that the waste and especially the oil will block up sewers in the winters and they hope to see the implementation of eco-friendly measures such as biochemical treatment and compost.
