In 2009, the number of people working in Guangzhou's 8,000 foreign-funded companies topped over 1.3 million people. These numbers were provided by the Guangzhou Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation yesterday (Jan 12th) and it shows numbers are up 108,000 from 2008. In addition, one third of the world's top 500 companies now have investments in Guangzhou.
Affected by the financial crisis, Guangzhou's imports and exports slid 7% to 77 billion USD in 2009. Exports dropped 7% to 37 billion USD and imports fell 3% to 40 billion USD. In 2009, the most successful exports compared to other Chinese cities were motorcycles.
