BRT Opens to Traffic on Jan.20th

Write: Lina [2011-05-20]
It was learned from the Urban and Rural Construction Commission of the Guangzhou Municipality that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) main works are expected to be open to traffic on January 20th. With the fare set at 2 Yuan for each trip, passengers can transfer to other BRT lines of the same direction without paying an extra fee.
In addition, the BRT system is also included in the joint public transport preferential ticket system, that is, one that provides that passengers, after swiping their Yang-cheng-tong cards a minimum of 15 times for bus, metro or BRT fares, can enjoy a 40% discount on all of these public transport systems in the remaining days of the month.
As many as 31 BRT lines will be put into operation with the mode of "flexible lines + a shuttle line" adopted by the Guangzhou Communications Commission.
The shuttle line, numbered B1, will operate on the BRT (Zhongshan Avenue) system along its entire route from Xiayuan in the Huanpu District to the Tianhe Sports Centre.
Another 30 BRT bus lines will only dedicate part of their routes to the BRT lane scheme on Zhongshan Avenue. When running on the shared BRT lanes, these buses will be operated in the BRT mode and shift to ordinary bus mode only after they exit, which is why they are called BRT flexible bus lines.
Due to the limited capacity of the BRT lanes, traffic departments will only upgrade 23 bus lines running in the eastern area of Guangzhou to take part in the BRT program, and only when passing through Zhongshan Avenue.
